WTF

I came home one evening to this...a completely shattered window. I'm pretty sure Hoops didn't do it. Though it is broken from the inside. This is an historic photo, because after after the back door slammed, more than half of this glass came cascading down into the porch. Lovely. It's gonna be around $550 to replace. Bummer.

In other news, we awarded our yearly scholarship for the Depot, and I got to give the speech again...which is both nerve wracking and fun. I hate public speaking, but it went OK; I made her parents cry, so I feel it was a success.

Lastly, I want to document my entry into the "sending a Haiku to Mars" contest. I actually wrote four, but I think I'm going to send the second one. Only three of all the ones entered from all earthlings will be sent, but everyone who enters gets their names on the DVD or whatever it is they're putting on the MAVEN space shuttle. So I thought that was kind of cool.

Heads up, aliens!
Infinity and beyond?
This is just the start.

Are you God of War?
Or a sleeping red planet?
Only time will tell.

Visit or conquer?
Just look at our track record.
Men don’t deserve you.

Earth to Mars, hello?
Houston, we have a problem
When men step too far.

Holy Rushing Water, Batman!

The April 2013 flood has been wild. I usually put my boat in by that little tree in the middle, and scrape bottom to boot. Normally it's kind of a bubbly happy stream along this stretch that  you can wade in. Fishermen usually stand just below the dam with hip waders. Not today! Check out the video, which I added appropriate music to, just for grins. Though I kind of like just the sound of rushing water too. You can still hear the water.

And It Only Took Me About 15 years...

I wasn't going to post anything about this, because it seems a little narcissistic, but Odie sent me such a sweet little note, I decided to document it.

"Shout out for my sister Paula. She texted me thur night with the news! You battled thru aches n pains, injuries and even surgery. You took some time off for rehab and eventually you felt comfortable with and trusted your knee enough to get back in there and finish what you started. So congratulations Paula, you earned it!!!"

It's Still Happening

Well Facebook (or whatever) may have stolen my muse, but at least it brought me another cookbook sale. I sent this Dundee Cardunal potholder to my high school chum as an added thanks for the business. Along with the inscription that "Food for thought is no substitute for the real thing." Stolen without apology from Walt Kelly. Let's see that close up. Stunning. Oh yeah, and Happy New Year!
